Personally, I wouldn’t go quite that far. There are a small number of reform-minded Muslims who renounce the doctrines of Jihad and Sharia, are very open about the Islamic sources for those doctrines, and are critical of Muslims who do not renounce those doctrines (which is different from ignoring the doctrines or denying they exist). Some reform-minded Muslims have proven themselves, over time, to be consistently truthful. I consider these Muslims to be allies, even if there are points over which we may disagree.

That being said, I do recommend checking the facts with any information on Jihad and Sharia, regardless of the source, but especially if it’s a Muslim source that says the West just doesn’t understand how peaceful and tolerant Islam is.

Some non-Muslim sources are just as bad (Google John Esposito). In this case, the explanation may not be taqiyya, but rather wishful thinking or Saudi financing.
